COUNTRY INFORMATION

In a world of over 333 islands and almost every conceivable activity to choose from, you can be assured of one thing when you arrive in the pleasant South Pacific destination of Fiji....that you will experience memorable days and nights that will last a lifetime.

In Fiji you can say, "Thrill Me" and then choose to hike mountain trails, raft white waters, or speed across and above the ocean surf. You might also request, "Romance Me" and engage in every single type of romantic fantasy come true that your mind can possible dream up. You may hear the waters siren to you and say, "Dive Me" and we can take you can venture down and along some of the most beautiful and colorful soft coral in the world.

Fiji may call out for you to "Explore Me" when you can don your back pack and head across a country chock full of adventures and 'adventurers'. Mingle with locals and you feel the need to say "Bula Me" and experience all the culture, traditions and legends of a once fierce but now fiercely happy and humble people. Fiji....it's everything you want it to be.

Fiji's rainforests are unique in that they have no harmful animals or insects. Here one can enjoy serene contemplation of nature in complete safety. Multi-hued birds flit from the trees, and if you are lucky you may spot several varieties of Fiji's tiny wild parrots. While the Fiji rainforest can be thick and impenetrable, you will find pathways used by the Fijians who know the jungle as well as you know your own living room.

Because of the mountainous nature of the Fiji islands, there are numerous streams and waterfalls, often with a cool pond in a rocky basin beneath the falls. One of the most famous Fijian waterfall is the sacred Bouma Falls on the Island of Taveuni, seen by the world in the motion picture "Return to the Blue Lagoon".

Here you will also find a natural waterslide, also featured in the movie, where local Fiji residents have enjoyed themselves for centuries. Fiji has no leeches or crocodiles, and Fijian wild streams and brooks are crystal clear and unpolluted.

Comprised of more than 300 volcanic and coral islands, the Fiji archipelago is at the crossroads of the South Pacific. In the days of sailing ships, it was known as The Cannibal Isles and carefully avoided by mariners because of its fierce warriors and treacherous waters. More recently, Fiji's tropical climate and location on Pacific air routes have made it a prime spot for tourists.

Fiji's population, which resides mostly on the two main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, is divided almost equally between indigenous Fijians and Indo-Fijians, the descendants of indentured labourers brought from India. Mixing between the two groups is minimal, and informal segregation runs deep at almost every level of society.

Fijians are known as some of the friendliest people in the world. They are not judgmental of other people and rarely express a negative opinion. Customs still prevail in the more traditional villages, especially those distant from towns and urban centres. And of course, Fiji is where the Cloud Breaker, the incredible six-metre wave was found offshore at Tavarua, a place which still draws surfers from around the world.
