AI PRESENTS ECUADOR
Day 1. Arrive in Quito
Your guide will be waiting to escort you from the airport to your hotel. Overnight stay in your choice of a tourist, first class or deluxe hotel.
Day 2. Hike to Las Chorreas de Borja
The adventure begins when you leave the central Andes behind and head into the heart of the Quijos valley known locally as the Valley of the Waterfalls. After settling into the lodge you'll strike off on a hike into the Sumaco-Galera National Park. A couple of hours hiking along a trail rich in flora and birds leads to Las Chorreas. Here the waters of the upper Borja river flow over the lip of a natural amphitheater from the hanging valley above. At the end of the day you return to the lodge where you have cold beer, hot showers and a tasty meal waiting. BLD
Day 3. Hike to Cascada San Rafael - Ecuador's highest waterfall
After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast you'll head out for further exploration of the Quijos valley - one of the most beautiful parts of Ecuador. You'll hike into Los Tayos cavern which is the nesting site for a large colony of Tayos or oil birds. Later you'll continue down the valley and take a short hike in to Ecuador's highest and most spectacular waterfall, Cascada San Rafael. You'll marvel at the sight of the entire Quijos river plunging 145m into the basalt cauldron below. On a clear day, from the Reventador river you may see the active volcano of the same name and perhaps explosions and lava flows. BLD
Day 4. Papallacta - Quito
Today you'll head back up the Valley of the Waterfalls to the Termas de Papallacta resort and spa for a well-earned soak in the volcanically-heated mineral waters.
How best to relax is the big decision of the day. Soak in the baths? Be pampered in the Spa? Stroll along the river bank loop path? After lunch it's time to head back to Quito and a last night get together. BL
Day 5. Depart Quito
Transfer to the airport for your flight home or extend your stay in Quito and surrounds or in the magical Galapagos Islands. B
